Terms of Service
These terms govern your use of ShareMyVault. Please read them carefully — the section on recovery describes a permanent, irreversible consequence of how the service is designed.
1. Acceptance of these terms
By creating an account or using ShareMyVault (the “Service”), you agree to these Terms of Service (the “Terms”). If you do not agree, do not use the Service. If you use the Service on behalf of another person or organization, you represent that you are authorized to accept these Terms for them.
2. The Service
ShareMyVault is a zero-knowledge encrypted vault for storing sensitive information such as passwords, account details, assets, documents, and end-of-life wishes. All encryption and decryption happen on your device. We store only encrypted data and never receive your password or recovery phrase.
3. Eligibility and your account
- You must be at least 16 years old and able to form a binding contract.
- You are responsible for the accuracy of the information you provide and for all activity under your account.
- You agree to keep your login credentials secure and to notify us promptly of any unauthorized access.
4. Encryption keys and recovery — read this carefully
Your vault can only be opened with your password and, as a backup, your 24-word recovery phrase. These keys are generated and held by you alone. We never see, store, or transmit them.
If you lose both your password and your recovery phrase, your data is permanently and irreversibly lost. We cannot reset your password, recover your phrase, or decrypt your vault under any circumstances — not for you, not for anyone, and not in response to any legal demand. You accept this trade-off as the cost of true privacy, and you are solely responsible for safely storing your recovery phrase.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or to store content you have no right to store.
- Attempt to breach, probe, or circumvent the security of the Service or other users' data.
- Interfere with, disrupt, or place undue load on the Service or its infrastructure.
- Reverse engineer the Service except to the limited extent permitted by applicable law.
- Resell, sublicense, or commercially exploit the Service without our written permission.
6. Your content
You retain all rights to the information you store in your vault (“Your Content”). You grant us only the limited rights necessary to store and transmit Your Content in encrypted form so we can provide the Service. Because Your Content is encrypted, we cannot access, monitor, or moderate it, and you are solely responsible for it.
7. Third-party services and the marketplace
The Service may surface third-party professionals (such as a lawyer marketplace) and let you connect to other services. We do not provide legal, financial, tax, or other professional advice, and we are not a law firm. Your dealings with any third party are solely between you and that third party. Please review our Marketplace Disclaimer for important details.
8. Plans, fees, and changes
Some features may be offered free of charge and others as paid plans. Where fees apply, they will be disclosed before you incur them. We may add, change, or discontinue features over time. If we introduce or change fees for a feature you use, we will give you reasonable notice.
9. Disclaimer of warranties
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that data will never be lost. You are responsible for maintaining your own copies of critical information, including your recovery phrase.
10. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, ShareMyVault and its affiliates will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, or goodwill, arising out of or relating to your use of the Service — including any data made unrecoverable by the loss of your password and recovery phrase. Our total aggregate liability for any claim relating to the Service will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim or USD 100.
11. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless ShareMyVault and its affiliates from any claims, damages, liabilities, and expenses arising out of your use of the Service, Your Content, or your violation of these Terms or applicable law.
12. Termination
You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms or if necessary to protect the Service or other users. Upon termination, the provisions that by their nature should survive (including ownership, disclaimers, and limitations of liability) will continue to apply.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify you. Your continued use of the Service after an update means you accept the revised Terms.
14. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws applicable at our principal place of business, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. Any disputes will be resolved in the courts located there, unless mandatory local law provides otherwise.
